First, let’s talk about what ChatGPT is.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot: a computer program that has been trained on a massive amount of data, allowing it to generate human-like text responses to various prompts. It learns via a process called “machine learning”.

So, you know how sometimes when you’re playing a video game, you can adjust the difficulty level? Machine learning is kind of like that, but for computers!
Basically, the computer is given a problem to solve, like recognizing pictures of dogs. At first, the computer might not know what a dog looks like, it’s shown a bunch of pictures and can’t tell which ones have dogs in them.
Just like when you’re playing a video game and it starts out easy, programmers start out by giving the computer really obvious pictures of dogs, like ones where the dog is sitting right in the middle of the picture. But as the computer gets better at recognizing dogs, it’s given more and more challenging pictures, like ones where the dog is hiding behind a tree or wearing a hat (okay, maybe dogs don’t usually wear hats, but you get the idea!).

And just like when you’re playing a video game and you get better the more you play, the computer gets better at recognizing dogs the more pictures it sees. Eventually, it can even recognize dogs in pictures it’s never seen before!
So, machine learning is just a way for computers to get better at solving problems the more they practice. It’s like training a puppy to do tricks, but instead of treats, programmers use lots and lots of pictures!
ChatGPT learns through a technique called “unsupervised learning”.
What is “unsupervised learning”?
You know how when you’re a baby, you learn a lot of things just by looking at the world around you? Like, you see a dog and you figure out that it’s furry and walks on four legs, even though no one told you that?

Photo by Sarah Chai on Pexels.com
Well, unsupervised learning is kind of like that, but for machines! Computer scientists give the machine a bunch of data, like pictures or text, and it looks at all of it to find patterns and similarities.
It’s like when you’re doing a puzzle and you don’t have the picture on the box to help you, but you start to notice patterns in the shapes and colors of the puzzle pieces. The machine does the same thing, except it’s way better at it than we are!

And the best part is, we don’t have to tell the machine what to look for or how to find it. It figures it all out on its own! It’s like a little detective that’s always on the lookout for new clues and information.
So, unsupervised learning is just a fancy way of saying that the machine explores and learns on its own, without it being given any specific instructions. And just like you as a baby, the machine can learn a lot just by looking at the world around it!More specifically, ChatGPT was trained using a type of unsupervised learning called “transformer-based language modeling”.
What is transformer-based language modeling? So, you know how sometimes you might text your friend and your phone automatically suggests what you might want to say next? Well, that’s kind of like what ChatGPT does, but on a much bigger scale!

To train ChatGPT, it was fed a whole bunch of text, like books, websites, and even online forums. The model learned to look for patterns and relationships in the text so it could predict what word would come next in a sentence.
Think of it like a guessing game, but instead of guessing a number, ChatGPT is guessing the next word in a sentence. The more it played this game, the better it got at guessing!
Now, the “transformer” part of transformer-based language modeling is like the secret sauce that makes ChatGPT really good at guessing. It’s kind of like a fancy tool that helps the model understand the context of the words it’s predicting, so it can make better guesses.

Overall, transformer-based language modeling is just a fancy way of saying that ChatGPT is really good at guessing what word should come next in a sentence based on what it’s learned from all that text we fed it. And it’s so good at it that it can have a conversation with you! This program has gained a lot of attention lately, and as with any new technology, there are bound to be misconceptions and myths surrounding it.

Misconceptions
ChatGPT and other AI can take over the world or become too intelligent for human control

Photo by Caleb Woods on Unsplash
One common myth about ChatGPT is that it is capable of taking over the world or becoming too intelligent for human control. This is simply not true. While ChatGPT is incredibly advanced, it is still a computer program that requires human input and control.
You see, ChatGPT is just a really smart computer program. ChatGPT is really good at processing information and answering questions, but it doesn’t have its own thoughts or desires. It’s like a really fancy calculator – it can only do what it’s programmed to do. And as for becoming too intelligent for human control, well, that’s just not how it works. ChatGPT is a computer program, designed to help us humans, not replace us. It’s like having a really smart assistant who can help us with tasks that might be too difficult or time-consuming for us to do on our own.
So, rest assured, there’s no need to worry about ChatGPT taking over the world or becoming too intelligent for human control. It’s just a really smart computer program designed to help us out. And hey, if it ever starts getting too big for its britches, we can always just unplug it!
Is that it is designed to replace human workers

Another myth about ChatGPT is that it is designed to replace human workers. In reality, ChatGPT is designed to assist human workers in various tasks, such as customer service, writing, and even scientific research. Later in this blog we’ll go over some examples how.ChatGPT can help streamline tasks and make them more efficient, but it cannot replace the creativity and critical thinking of human beings.
It can read your mind or steal your personal information

Photo by Clint Patterson on Unsplash
Some people are also afraid of ChatGPT because they believe that it is capable of reading their minds or stealing their personal information. This is not true either. ChatGPT can only generate text based on the information that it has been trained on. It does not have the capability to read human thoughts or steal personal information. Once again, it’s still just a computer program, like a really advanced calculator that can process language and information. But just like a calculator, it can’t read your mind or steal your information.
ChatGPT can only work with the information that it’s given. So, if you’re asking it a question or providing it with text to analyze, that’s all it’s going to see. It doesn’t have access to your thoughts or personal information or the rest of your phone or computer.
And as for stealing your personal information, well, that’s just not possible either. ChatGPT is a language processing tool, not a hacker. It doesn’t have the ability to hack into your computer or steal your information.
So, rest assured, there’s no need to worry about ChatGPT reading your mind or stealing your personal information. It’s just a computer program designed to help you with tasks like answering questions, translating languages, and writing. Think of it like a really helpful friend who’s always there to lend a hand (or a digital brain, in this case!).
